STT GDC Bengaluru 1 is 0.6 MW — six hundred kilowatts. It is the second smallest data centre record in this registry, behind a 0.5 MW edge site in Patna. It is also 2.6% of a 23 MW city headline that gets quoted in market notes as Bengaluru capacity. No stage, rack count, floor area or PUE is published. Keep the record — it is a real site and its existence is a fact about the market. But a six-hundred-kilowatt suite is not what anyone means when they say a data centre, and the gap between the two is the whole argument of this page.

2What six hundred kilowatts is

Six hundred kilowatts is one enterprise customer with redundancy, or a network point of presence with some compute attached.

Bracketing 0.6 MW
Assumed densityCabinetsWhat it looks like
5 kW a rack120a small hall, one or two rows
8 kW a rack75a single contained aisle
12 kW a rack50one row of dense compute

At this size the building cannot host a second tenant without splitting the suite, cannot offer meaningful expansion, and would struggle to justify its own substation. It exists because it was cheap to keep, or because a specific customer is anchored to it, or because it holds connectivity that is worth more than the compute.

Those are all legitimate reasons. None of them make it capacity.

3The small end of the registry

Five records in this registry sit under one megawatt, across four operators and five cities. Together they are 2.7 MW — 0.1% of the total.

The sub-megawatt set, and why they matter
RecordMWWhy it is in the file
STT Delhi 10.9a city suite, part of a 12 MW Delhi headline
STT Bengaluru 10.6part of a 23 MW headline that reconciles to rounding
CtrlS Patna Edge DC 10.5the first edge site in Bihar, recorded separately from the larger Patna building
Sify Vashi0.38legacy Mumbai node in the original data centre corridor
NTT Mumbai BSE Data Center0.3an exchange-adjacent site, where latency is the product
Total2.70.1% of the registry’s counted capacity

Two of the five are published by NTT and Sify as separate facilities, and three are children inside city headlines. That inconsistency is the interesting part: the same size of site is a record for one operator and a rounding detail for another.

Gridvik keeps all five, because deleting them would lose the fact that the operator runs them — and because the alternative, quietly rounding them away, is how market totals end up not matching any primary source.

The one question
Is Bengaluru 1 operating, and is it single-tenant
Why they will answer it
A site this size is not marketed — it either has an occupant or it is being kept for one
Gridvik estimate
The suite is single-tenant and occupied. Labelled an estimate
What changes it
A cabinet count, a PUE, or a statement that the site is being retired

5Limits and open questions

  • Nothing but a capacity. No stage, racks, floor area or PUE.
  • Single source. No directory lists a 0.6 MW STT Bengaluru site separately.
  • Purpose unknown. Connectivity anchor, legacy tenant or leased site awaiting redevelopment — the public record does not say.
  • Counted inside a headline. The 0.6 MW is part of the 23 MW that gets quoted, and is 2.6% of it.
  • What would close it. One line from the operator. This is the cheapest record in the file to complete.
