STT GDC Chennai 7 is 7.2 MW and it is Siruseri Phase 1 — the building the Tamil Nadu chief minister e-inaugurated on 19 February 2026 as an AI-ready facility. It is operational. It is also, in the company’s own published structure, inside two portfolios at once: it is the first phase of the 45 MW Siruseri campus, and it is simultaneously counted inside the 68 MW Chennai city headline. Its parent record in this registry is the campus, correctly. That makes this building, at 7.2 MW, the single clearest example in the file of how published structures permit double counting.
1At a glance
2One building, two parents
This is the only record in the Indian estate that appears inside two published aggregates at once.
| Structure | Published | This building’s role | If you add both |
|---|---|---|---|
| Siruseri campus | 45 MW IT | Phase 1, inside the 45 | — |
| Chennai city portfolio | 68 MW IT | one of five cards, needed to close the 68 | — |
| Both together | 113 MW | counted twice | 7.2 MW over |
| What an analyst would conclude | 113 MW of STT Chennai capacity | — | wrong by 6% |
The error is small in absolute terms and structural in kind. It is not that 7.2 MW matters to a Chennai decision. It is that two pages of the same website, on the same day, describe the same building in two different portfolios — and one of them calls it "Chennai city" when it sits at Siruseri.
The registry keeps this record under the campus, which is the defensible choice: a building is a phase of a campus before it is a card in a city headline.
A building belongs to one parent. Where an operator publishes two overlapping aggregates, the building counts against the lower-level one and the higher-level one is treated as a ceiling — never the other way round.
Applied across this file, that single rule also fixes West Bengal, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
3The distance problem
Siruseri is not Chennai city. It is a suburban industrial township on the southern edge of the metropolitan area, roughly fifty kilometres from the central business district.
| Chennai city | Siruseri | |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from the CBD | minutes | 50 km |
| Latency profile | the reason city sites exist | a suburban campus profile |
| Customer | banks, brokers, latency-sensitive enterprise | hyperscale and AI tenants who need land and power |
| Land cost | the highest in the south | industrial park rates |
| Building type | small legacy floors | AI-ready new build, 45 MW campus |
| Recorded as | part of the 68 MW city headline | PRJ-019, a separate campus |
Counting a Siruseri building inside a Chennai city figure is not a rounding choice. It merges two products that serve different customers at different distances and different prices.
The practical consequence: if a tenant asks what STT has in Chennai city, the answer is Chennai 1 and Chennai 2 at 29 MW. The Siruseri campus is a separate proposition, and it is the one with room to grow.
4What a roll-up gets wrong
Anyone building a Tamil Nadu total from operator pages will hit this building twice. Here is the arithmetic of the mistake.
| Method | Total | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Chennai city headline plus Siruseri campus | 113 MW | double counts 7.2 MW |
| Chennai cards plus Siruseri campus | 106 MW | same double count, from the cards |
| Chennai city headline only | 68 MW | the operator’s own figure, and it already includes Siruseri Phase 1 |
| Chennai 1 and 2 plus Siruseri campus | 74 MW | the only clean total: operating Chennai plus the whole campus |
Seventy-four megawatts is the number that holds. It is 29 MW of operating city capacity plus the 45 MW Siruseri campus, with the Phase 1 building counted once because it lives inside the campus.
Everything else on that table is defensible-sounding and wrong. Which is the argument for registry-level structure rather than page-level sums: the only way to avoid this is to know which building belongs to which parent, and no operator publishes that as a table.
5Timeline
- Tamil Nadu announces a ₹4,200 crore multi-campus STT expansion and the Siruseri campus
- Siruseri Phase 1 at 7.2 MW is e-inaugurated by the state chief minister as an AI-ready facility
- The same 7.2 MW appears as Chennai 7 inside the Chennai city headline of 68 MW
- Carried as an operational building under the Siruseri campus, and recorded as the closing card of the Chennai headline
6Procurement
7Limits and open questions
- Double counted in the operator’s own structure. The central defect this page documents.
- No rack count or PUE, despite being the newest AI-ready building in the estate.
- No occupancy or tenant published for a building opened eight months ago.
- "AI-ready" is an operator claim with no published density or cooling specification behind it.
- No date for the remaining 37.8 MW of the campus.
- What would close it. A design density and an occupancy figure. This is the most marketable building in the estate and the least specified.
